Get to know Langley

Not to be confused with the City of Langley, the Langley Township is the traditional and unceded territory of various Stó:lo nations. The Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) traders were the first Europians to reside in the region permanently, and built the Fort Langley post in 1827.

At first, Fort Langley was used in fur trading, but as the HBC’s network of forts grew, the Fort soon became a hub for smithing, farming, and shipping furs, still, to Europe. Today, farming continues to play a significant role in Langley’s economy.

Nicknamed the “horse capital” of British Columbia, visitors and residents in Langley can enjoy the Thunderbird Show Park, and other equestrian facilities.

Made up of six very distinct communities, the Township referred to as “Langley”, is not only home to the Birthplace of British Columbia (in the charming historic village of Fort Langley) but also the communities of Aldergrove, Brookswood-Fernridge, Murrayville, Walnut Grove, and Willoughby-Willowbrook.
