Location & Boundaries

Brookswood-Fernridge sits in the south of the Township of Langley, roughly bounded by 16 Avenue to the north, 44 Avenue to the south, 196 Street to the west, and past 212 Street to the east, covering an area of about 3,500 acres. It borders Langley City to the north and Surrey to the west, with Campbell Valley to the south.

History & Naming

The area was traditionally the territory of Coast Salish peoples, with archeological sites recorded throughout the neighbourhood. Brookswood remained a rural farming community until major road projects and residential growth in the 1950s and 1960s transformed it into the suburban, family-oriented community it is today. The neighbourhood is informally split into a northern section, developed mainly from the 1960s through the 1990s with single-family homes on large lots, and a newer southern section.

Shopping & Commercial Areas

Brookswood Village, at the intersection of 200 Street and 40 Avenue next to Brookswood Park, is the neighbourhood's main commercial hub, with banks, the Brookswood Library, pharmacies, health care services, restaurants, a post office, and office space. A smaller commercial node sits along 208 Street between 40 and 42 Avenue, anchored by a gas station and hardware/home improvement retailers.

Housing Stock

Brookswood is known for older detached homes on large, often fenced lots, with relatively few strata apartment buildings. The mix includes long-established single-family homes alongside newer construction as older lots are redeveloped, plus farms and some manufactured home parks toward the rural edges of the neighbourhood.

Transportation

Brookswood is largely car-dependent, though it's served by several TransLink routes, including the 561 and 563 connecting to Langley Centre, the 531 running to White Rock and Willowbrook, and the 560 shuttle to Murrayville. Highway 99 is accessible to the west via 32 Avenue and 16 Avenue.

Parks & Recreation

The community is known for its abundance of parkland, tree cover, and conservation areas. The George Preston Recreation Centre anchors local recreation with hockey and curling facilities, alongside a BMX track (built 1977) and a skate park (added 2001). The Brookswood disc golf course at Langley Passive Park is a popular draw as well.
